LEWISVILLE, TX — A stabbing on Monday morning left a Denton County Commissioner severely injured and her husband deceased.
According to the Lewisville Police Department, officers responded to a report of an assault in progress at the 1000 block of Springwood Drive in Lewisville at around 3:53 a.m. When authorities arrived, they found two adult victims: Commissioner Bobbie J. Mitchell, 76, suffering from stab wounds, and her husband, Fred Mitchell, 75, deceased.
Emergency responders from the Lewisville Fire Department provided medical assistance at the scene and transported both individuals to area hospitals.
Fred Mitchell was pronounced deceased shortly after 5:00 a.m. Commissioner Mitchell, age 76, is currently in stable condition and receiving treatment for her injuries.
The suspect, later identified as Mitchell Blake Reinacher, 23, the couple’s grandson, was taken into custody at the scene without incident. He has been charged with murder and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and is currently being held at the Lewisville City Jail.
Commissioner Bobbie J. Mitchell has served Precinct 3 in Denton County since 2000, according to the Denton County website. She previously served on the Lewisville City Council and was elected the city’s first Black mayor in 1993. She resigned from the mayor’s office in 2000 to run for her current role in county government.
Lewisville Police Department detectives and crime scene investigators are currently on site processing evidence.
