Lubbock Man Arrested by DPS in Undercover Teen Dating App Trap

LUBBOCK, TX — A man was arrested by a Texas Department of Public Safety officer on Thursday after investigators say he tried to meet someone he believed was a 15-year-old girl through an online dating app.

According to court documents, on April 24, a Texas DPS officer created a fake profile on the app "Badoo," posing as a 15-year-old girl referred to in reports as “Jane Doe.”

At around 1:00 p.m., the officer was contacted by a user named “Eduardo,” who gave “Jane Doe” his phone number and moved the conversation to text messaging at approximately 2:49 p.m.

The person texting the undercover officer was later identified as Eduardo De Rossi Borin, 26.

Court documents state Borin texted the undercover officer and admitted he was nervous about meeting someone underage, but continued the conversation anyway.

He eventually agreed to meet at an apartment complex in Lubbock, shared updates about his location, and sent a photo of what he was wearing.

When Borin arrived at the apartment complex, DPS officers took him into custody.

Eduardo De Rossi Borin was charged with Online Solicitation of a Minor under 18, an offense classified as a third-degree felony in Texas, and punishable by between 2 and 20 years in prison.

As of Monday, April 28, Borin has posted bond.
