LUBBOCK, TX — Lubbock ISD and Monterey High School have parted ways with head football coach Judd Thrash.
According to a report from Matt Stepp with Dave Campbell's High School Football, on Friday, the school district listed an opening for the Athletic coordinator/Head Coach position at Lubbock Monterey High School.
Thrash completely overhauled the Monterey football program over the past two seasons. A team that finished 0-10 in 2022 saw a revitalization over the last two years with a 4-6 record in 2023 and a 7-5 record in 2024.
Thrash led the Plainsmen to a Distict 2-5A Championship last season, including a win over Abilene High, and a Bi-District Championship. The Plainsmen eventually fell to Regional Finalst, Denton Ryan, in the Area Round 29-16.
The Plainsmen seemed to be on the rise under Thrash's tenure before the coach was placed on administrative leave by Lubbock ISD back in early April following an arrest for DWI. The Plainsmen's Offensive Coordinator, Jason Sims, has been at the helm during the offseason since Thrash's absence.
It is not clear who Lubbock ISD will choose to replace Thrash at Monterey, but Sims is a candidate.
