Lubbock Launches 'Move Out Give Back' to Promote Reuse, Prevent Illegal Dumping

LUBBOCK, TX — The City of Lubbock Solid Waste Department, in partnership with Texas Tech University, will host its annual Move Out Give Back program on May 7 and May 17, 2025, to provide students and residents with a responsible way to dispose of or donate items during the end-of-semester move-out season.

The initiative aims to reduce illegal dumping and encourage the reuse of gently used goods by offering two temporary drop-off locations for hard-surface furniture and small working appliances. Items should be clean and free of debris, and attendants will help determine if they are suitable for community reuse.

Drop-Off Locations:

  • Elgin and 29th Street: Next to the City of Lubbock recycling site, by the LP&L Substation, 2901 Elgin Ave

  • First Baptist Church: Southeast parking lot at 13th Street & Avenue V

Operating Hours:

  • Wednesday, May 7, and Saturday, May 17

  • 8:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.

In addition to reusable items such as shelving, lamps, mini-fridges, and coffee makers, the City encourages residents to properly dispose of large or damaged items through its bulky item pickup program.
