AUSTIN, TX — Gov. Greg Abbott on Thursday announced a reward of up to $30,000 for information leading to the arrest of Trevor McEuen, a capital murder suspect who has been on the run since May 5.
McEuen, who is accused in the May 2023 shooting death of 35-year-old Aaron Martinez in Kaufman County, failed to appear for a scheduled court hearing while out on bond. Authorities say he removed his ankle monitor and set fire to the building he had been living in on his parents’ property near Grand Saline before fleeing. A six-hour search on May 5 along U.S. Highway 80 east of Grand Saline was ultimately called off.
Abbott said McEuen has since been added to the Texas Department of Public Safety’s 10 Most Wanted Fugitive List. The Office of the Governor is offering $10,000, while Kaufman County Crime Stoppers and the Kaufman County Sheriff's Office are each contributing $10,000, bringing the total reward to $30,000.
“Trevor McEuen is exactly why Texas must fix its broken and deadly bail system,” said Governor Abbott. “A violent criminal like McEuen charged with capital murder should never be released on our streets. That’s why I made bail reform an emergency item that must pass this legislative session. I urge all Texans with information on McEuen to call the Texas Crime Stoppers hotline or submit an anonymous tip online to help law enforcement apprehend this heinous criminal. Working together, we will bring fugitives like Trevor McEuen to justice.”
