BYU Uses Big Fourth Inning to Down Texas Tech in Series Opener

PROVO, UT – Despite a strong offensive night from Damian Bravo and a solid relief outing from Jonny Lowe, Texas Tech fell 13-4 to BYU in Thursday night’s series opener at Miller Park.

The Red Raiders (19-31, 12-16 Big 12) allowed a seven-run fourth inning that proved to be the difference, as BYU (26-25, 9-19 Big 12) broke open a 3-2 game and never looked back.

Bravo continued his hot streak at the plate, going 3-for-3 with a solo home run, his second straight game with a homer and third in the last four contests. He also drew a walk and scored twice. The junior outfielder has raised his average to .346 after going 11-for-17 over his last four games.

Logan Hughes extended his on-base streak to 36 consecutive games with a single and a double, while Robin Villeneuve contributed a pair of sacrifice flies, bringing his season RBI total to 46.

Texas Tech starter Mac Heuer took the loss after surrendering six earned runs over 3.1 innings. Zach Erdman also struggled in relief, allowing four runs while recording just one out. Lowe entered with two outs in the fourth and delivered 3.1 strong innings, giving up only two hits and one run.

BYU was paced by leadoff hitter Ryder Robinson, who went 4-for-5 with four RBIs and three runs scored, and Tate Gambill, who added two triples and three runs scored in a 3-for-4 night.
