LUBBOCK, TX — Texas Tech head baseball coach Tim Tadlock announced Saturday the resignation of longtime assistant Matt Gardner, who recently completed his 12th season with the Red Raiders and sixth as the program’s pitching coach.
"I'd like to thank Matt and his family for their dedication to our baseball program the past 12 seasons," Tadlock said. "Ultimately, this season did not meet the standards and expectations we have as a program. Our goal is to compete for Big 12 championships and to put ourselves in position to win a national championship. That goal will remain as we search for a new pitching coach and begin to build our roster for next season."
Gardner played a key role in one of the most successful eras in Texas Tech baseball history, helping the Red Raiders advance to the College World Series four times (2014, 2016, 2018, 2019) and secure three Big 12 regular-season titles (2016, 2017, 2019). He served as the program’s volunteer assistant during the first two trips to Omaha before being promoted to pitching coach in 2018.
Texas Tech concluded the 2025 season with a 20-33 overall record and a 13-17 mark in Big 12 play. The season ended with a first-round loss to Cincinnati in the Phillips 66 Big 12 Championship.
