LUBBOCK, TX — The Silent Wings Museum will host its annual Spirit of ’45 Day on Sunday, August 10, offering free admission from 1 to 5 p.m. The museum will honor the legacy of the World War II generation, particularly the contributions and sacrifices of children on the Home Front.
This year’s event highlights how American children adapted their play during wartime, using games and toys that reflected a nation at war and helped instill lasting values. The afternoon will feature hands-on activities inspired by those era-specific games.
Attendees are invited to join museum educators and curators for discussions about how play serves as a tool for teaching values, as illustrated by the current exhibit In the Game Together: Toys for a Nation at War.
The City of Lubbock Office of Emergency Management will also be on-site with an interactive activity, using play as a way to educate participants about emergency preparedness.
Spirit of ’45 Day is supported by a grant from the CH Foundation.
The Silent Wings Museum is located at 6202 N. I-27 in Lubbock’s historic airport terminal. For more information, visit www.silentwingsmuseum.com or call (806) 775-3049.
