Lubbock Public Library Hosts Texas America250 Traveling Exhibit

LUBBOCK, TX — The Lubbock Public Library will host a free traveling exhibit commemorating the nation’s semiquincentennial throughout 2026, offering residents a chance to explore Texas’ role in American history.

The exhibit, titled Texas America250, is on loan from the Texas State Library and Archives Commission and features historically significant materials from the State Archives. The exhibit will rotate among Lubbock’s public library branches during the year.

Texas America250 is part of a statewide initiative that began traveling to libraries, schools and community organizations in summer 2025 and continues through the 250th anniversary of the United States in 2026. The exhibit highlights Texas’ contributions to the nation’s development, from early Spanish missions to the space race, showcasing documents, photographs and artifacts that reflect the state’s cultural, economic and historical impact.

“We are so excited to bring this traveling exhibit to the community,” said Library Director Hannah Stewart. “This is a great way for Texans of all ages to learn more about the state’s role in U.S. history and explore some of our most treasured documents, photographs and artifacts.”

In conjunction with the exhibit, TSLAC plans to launch a statewide Texas America250 Reading Challenge in 2026. Additional educational resources from the agency’s library collections, Talking Book Program and the Texas Center for the Book are expected to be released later this year.

The Texas America250 exhibit will be available for free viewing at the following Lubbock Public Library locations:

  • January–March: Godeke Branch Library, 5034 Frankford Ave.

  • April–June: Groves Branch Library, 5520 19th St.

  • July–September: Mahon Library, 1306 9th St.

  • July 4: Special viewing at Fourth on Broadway, Panhandle South Plains Fairgrounds
