Lubbock ISD Prepares for Winter Storm

LUBBOCK, TX — Lubbock Independent School District officials are monitoring forecasts from the National Weather Service as a potential winter storm could impact the Texas Panhandle and South Plains later this week.

District officials said the Lubbock ISD operations team remains in close contact with the National Weather Service’s Lubbock office and is preparing for the possibility of delays, cancellations or early dismissals if hazardous conditions develop.

"The safety of our students and staff is our top priority," LISD said. "The district is evaluating the possibility of hazardous driving conditions on Friday morning (Jan. 23) and considering how this will affect families and staff. Durham School Services is also part of the discussions to determine what this will mean for students who ride the bus to and from school."

Lubbock ISD officials are also coordinating with Durham School Services to determine possible impacts on students who rely on bus transportation.

Families and staff are encouraged to monitor email and text message notifications for updates as weather conditions evolve. Information will also be shared through the district’s official website, social media channels and local media outlets.

Lubbock ISD serves more than 23,000 students and is the largest K-12 public school district in the region.
