LUBBOCK, TX — Two of the hottest teams in college basketball will put their win streaks on the line Saturday when No. 12 Texas Tech Red Raiders host No. 6 Houston Cougars at United Supermarkets Arena.
Texas Tech enters the matchup riding a four-game winning streak and a perfect 10-0 record at home this season, while Houston has won 11 straight games overall and 16 consecutive road contests. Tipoff is set for 5:30 p.m., with the game airing nationally on ESPN.
The meeting marks the second matchup between the teams this month after Houston edged Tech 69-65 on Jan. 6. It will also be the seventh consecutive meeting between the programs with both ranked in the Associated Press Top 25.
Texas Tech (15-4, 5-1 Big 12) is coming off a dominant 92-73 road win over Baylor on Tuesday, during which the Red Raiders tied a program record by making 17 3-pointers. Tech set a Big 12 record by knocking down 14 of those shots in the first half, shooting 73.7% from beyond the arc before halftime.
JT Toppin and Christian Anderson continue to power the Red Raiders. Toppin is averaging 21.6 points and a Big 12-best 10.8 rebounds per game, while Anderson adds 20.2 points and leads the conference with 7.4 assists per contest. The duo is the only pair of teammates nationally both averaging more than 20 points per game.
Against Baylor, Anderson poured in 26 points on 8-of-10 shooting from 3-point range, while Donovan Atwell added 21 points after hitting seven 3-pointers. Tech leads the Big 12 with 11.4 made 3-pointers per game and ranks second in the league in 3-point shooting percentage at 39.1%.
Houston (17-1, 5-0 Big 12), which has not played since a 103-73 win over Arizona State on Sunday, boasts one of the nation’s top defenses. The Cougars allow just 60.1 points per game, second nationally, and lead the Big 12 in turnover margin and assist-to-turnover ratio.
Emanuel Sharp leads Houston with 15.9 points per game, followed closely by Kingston Flemings at 15.6. Flemings scored 23 points in the Cougars’ win over Tech earlier this month, while Joseph Tugler and Chris Cenac each recorded double-doubles in that contest.
Saturday’s showdown follows ESPN College GameDay, which will broadcast live from United Supermarkets Arena from 10–11 a.m. Doors will open at 9 a.m. for fans, marking the program’s first on-campus appearance of the season and its first visit to Lubbock since 2018.
Houston leads the all-time series 33-28, though Texas Tech is 15-9 against the Cougars in Lubbock.
