LUBBOCK, TX — Top-ranked Texas Tech will take its 13-game winning streak on the road this weekend, opening a three-game series against Utah on Friday.
The Red Raiders (38-2, 14-1 Big 12) face the Utes (25-13-1, 4-7-1) at 6 p.m. CT Friday, followed by games at 1 p.m. Saturday and noon Sunday. Texas Tech will then continue its road swing with games at Utah State on Monday before returning to Texas to face UTSA on Tuesday and Texas State on Wednesday.
Texas Tech swept Utah last season in Lubbock and holds a 6-4 edge in the all-time series.
The Red Raiders moved to No. 1 nationally for the second time this season after extending their winning streak to 13 games, the second-longest active streak in the country.
NiJaree Canady was named Big 12 Pitcher of the Week for the third time this season after surpassing 1,000 career strikeouts. She enters the weekend with a 15-2 record.
Mihyia Davis continues to rank among the nation’s most productive players, leading all active players in hits (316), at-bats (773) and stolen bases (131).
Canady, the reigning National Pitcher of the Year, is one of only two active players with at least 1,000 career strikeouts and the only one with both 1,000 strikeouts and 90 wins.
Kaitlyn “KT” Terry leads Texas Tech with a .525 batting average, which ranks among the top marks nationally. She also holds a 15-0 record in the circle with a 1.73 ERA and set a program record with a 24-game hitting streak.
Mia Williams leads the team with 14 doubles, 49 RBIs and 14 home runs, while Jackie Lis has surged offensively in recent weeks, including an inside-the-park home run and a grand slam in the same game against BYU.
Under head coach Gerry Glasco, Texas Tech has not lost a conference series since his tenure began at Louisiana, compiling a 64-0 mark in series play. The Red Raiders have also recorded 27 run-rule victories this season, surpassing the previous program record of 20.
Texas Tech has added 12 shutouts this season after setting a program record with 26 last year.
