One Firefighter Injured at Tuesday Morning 18th Street Blaze

LUBBOCK, TX — Lubbock Fire Rescue responded to a reported structure fire on Tuesday near the 1700 block of 18th Street after receiving a 911 call about smoke and flames coming from a residence.

Fire crews arrived to find a vacant two-story residential structure with a confirmed fire. Firefighters initiated suppression and search operations and were able to extinguish the blaze.

Preliminary findings indicate the fire originated on a mattress in a downstairs apartment and spread up an exterior wall into the doorway of the upstairs unit.

During firefighting efforts, one firefighter suffered a leg injury after stepping through a hole in the second-floor apartment.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Lubbock Fire Rescue Fire Marshal’s Office.
