Texas Tech's Dickey Named to the Maxwell Award Watch List

LUBBOCK, TX — Texas Tech University junior running back Cameron Dickey was named Monday to the preseason watch list for the Maxwell Award, presented annually to the nation's most outstanding college football player.

The recognition marks Dickey's first preseason watch list honor of the summer following a breakout sophomore season in which he became the ninth player in Texas Tech history to rush for more than 1,000 yards in a season.

Dickey rushed for 1,124 yards and 14 touchdowns in 2025, leading the Big 12 Conference in rushing touchdowns and total touchdowns with 16. He finished third in the conference in rushing yards and ranked among the nation's top 20 in both rushing and total touchdowns.

His 1,000-yard season was the third consecutive by a Red Raider, following former teammate Tahj Brooks, who is now with the Cincinnati Bengals. It marked the first time in program history Texas Tech has produced a 1,000-yard rusher in three straight seasons.

The Red Raiders rushed for 2,560 yards as a team last season, their highest total since joining the Big 12 in 1996. Dickey and fellow junior J'Koby Williams each accounted for at least 1,300 all-purpose yards, making Texas Tech one of two Football Bowl Subdivision programs to have two players reach that mark and the only school to do so with two running backs.

Dickey earned second-team All-Big 12 honors from the league's coaches last season and was a semifinalist for the Doak Walker Award. He is one of 81 players nationally and 15 from the Big 12 named to this year's Maxwell Award watch list.

Maxwell Award semifinalists will be announced Nov. 10, with three finalists selected Nov. 24. The winner will be revealed during the ESPN Home Depot College Football Awards Show on Dec. 10, with the formal presentation scheduled for March 13 at the Maxwell Football Club Awards in Atlanta.

The Maxwell Award watch list begins three consecutive weeks of preseason watch list announcements by the National College Football Awards Association. The Outland Trophy and Bronko Nagurski Trophy watch lists will be released Tuesday.
