Ed Blackburn, rancher and multimedia journalist will head the San Angelo LIVE! news coverage of the 2014 San Angelo Stock Show and Rodeo.
Blackburn is a rancher, writer, and prolific interviewer with an incredible ability to record the most interesting conversations with Texans. For several years, Blackburn has been the publisher of the Texas history website, The Texana Review and a featured speaker all over the state.
Blackburn’s keen ability to draw out the real story in his interviews is matched by his quintessential western voice. He could have narrated the 1993 movie Tombstone.
Blackburn will dedicate his coverage of the event using the stock show as the hub, and other stories that are often overlooked as spokes of the wheel as he spins the story as the rodeo unfolds.
Blackburn believes that the real story of the rodeo is not just the cowboys performing in the coliseum, but the kids and their fathers and family members who dedicate a great portion of their time and effort into learning the trade of ranching by showing their animals.
The San Angelo LIVE! coverage will incorporate video and audio interviews along with short, bite-sized editorial by our cast of writers, including Chelsea Schmid and Joe Hyde. Content will be published across our platform, including on YouTube, Facebook, Twitter, our website, and email.
In addition, San Angelo LIVE! will incorporate link journalism, by linking to meaningful stories and videos of the participants at the show.

This year’s rodeo is 17 days long, from Feb. 14 – Mar. 2. We will publish a special digital rodeo edition every day, using our email as the scheduling medium driving the coverage. We anticipate that the traffic to the site will match or exceed that number during the rodeo’s 17 days.

There are 15 Sponsorship Slots Available, and they include:
- Daily announcement panel ad on the San Angelo LIVE! Daily Email. It is wide, and tick at 570 pixels x 216 pixels. This size is optimized for mobile readers. The ads will rotate by day within the rodeo coverage on the email every day. That is 17 days of email impressions which will reach 5,000 people with a frequency of 15,000 – 20,000 impressions.
- One day, one of each of the sponsors will be featured at the coveted top spot of the email. This is the very top spot, right underneath the LIVE! logo.
- The 570 x 216 pixel email ad spot can utilize our Daily Deal functionality, link to an event, the sponsor’s website, or a specialized landing page. In addition, each ad will use ALT, or alternate tagging so that the advertiser’s message will appear even to email readers who do not download images.
- The art for the ad can be changed daily before 5 p.m. for the next day.
- One 300 x125 pixel display ad on the right rail of the special San Angelo Rodeo and Stock Show section of the San Angelo LIVE! website. The website delivers about 100,000 unique visitors per month reaching 50,000 people. 34,000 of those people reside within the 76901-76909 zip codes.
- One mention on the San Angelo LIVE! Facebook wall promoting getting more fans for the advertiser’s Facebook page, special offers, or special message. The San Angelo LIVE! Title Sponsorship
There are two title sponsorship slots and they include everything above, plus:
- Up to 15 second mentions within the organic audio of each of the Ed Blackburn presentations. For example, Blackburn will say, “This segment of our daily report from today’s San Angelo Stock Show and Rodeo is brought to you by [your company name]. Stop by [your company name] to [get the company name’s products or services, or the slogan or tag line].” Both title sponsors will be mentioned in every video and audio report. The first and second position mentions will rotate for the 17 days.
- Organic links to the title sponsor’s website in the description area of the YouTube videos on YouTube.com.
- Organic links to the sponsor’s website near the top paragraph of the summary of the day’s events.
- Title sponsor logos are incorporated on the top banner of the Rodeo section of the website and the email.
- The links will remain on the San Angelo LIVE! site for one year and the links on the YouTube videos will remain on the YouTube site as long as YouTube allows the videos and descriptions to remain (which is generally forever).
