Abilene Christian Football Team Injured in Lubbock Crash

LUBBOCK, TX — Tragedy struck as the Abilene Christian University (ACU) football team was departing Lubbock after a hard-fought game against the Texas Tech Red Raiders. One of the buses transporting players and coaches was involved in a crash, resulting in four injuries.

The collision occurred at the intersection of University Avenue and the Marsha Sharp Freeway frontage road. The crash, which involved the team’s bus and a Ford F-250, caused significant damage to the front of the bus. Among the injured were the bus driver, two coaches, and a player, all of whom were rushed to University Medical Center in Lubbock. The crash happened at 11:33 p.m., according to public safety radio traffic.

ACU's athletics department confirmed on Instagram that the injuries were not life-threatening. The bus was en route back to Abilene following the game at AT&T Jones Stadium, where ACU nearly upset the Red Raiders in a thrilling double-overtime battle, ultimately falling 53-52.

In a statement, Texas Tech expressed their support: “The thoughts and prayers of Red Raider Nation are with our friends at ACU and those affected by tonight’s accident. Our administration has been in constant contact with ACU’s staff since their departure and will assist wherever needed.”

Texas Tech dispatched Director of Athletics Kirby Hocutt and team physician Dr. Michael Shy to the crash scene, along with Lubbock Fire and Rescue and EMS medics.
