10 Students on Board in Hermleigh ISD Bus Crash, No Injuries

SCURRY COUNTY, TX – The Texas Department of Public Safety responded to an early morning crash involving a Hermleigh ISD activity bus on April 1.

The bus, which was transporting ten students aged 14 to 17, crashed at the intersection of County Road 4114 and County Road 4123 at around 5:55 a.m.

No one was injured in the crash, DPS says.

According to a press release, the bus was traveling east on CR 4114 when it approached a “T” intersection with CR 4123. The gravel-covered and unlit road made it impossible for the driver to make a left turn due to the bus's speed. The bus continued east through the intersection and off the roadway.

The driver was cited for unsafe speed, meaning the bus was going too fast for the road conditions and lack of lighting, though there was no indication the driver was actually speeding.

Hermleigh ISD Superintendent Jessie Ellerbe addressed the incident in a statement:

This morning, one of our Hermleigh ISD activity buses was involved in a one vehicle accident while carrying students to a contest. We are relieved to report that no one was seriously injured.
