Lubbock Police Identify Bicyclist Injured in Crash

LUBBOCK, TX – A crash in North Lubbock on Monday afternoon left one person seriously injured and is now under investigation by the Lubbock Police Department’s Major Crash Unit.

According to a press release, at 11:59 a.m. on March 31, officers responded to a report of a crash with injuries in the 2000 block of Erskine Street. Upon arrival, they found Kendal Lawlis, 70, who had been riding a bicycle when he was struck.

Lawlis was transported to University Medical Center by ambulance with serious injuries.

The initial investigation indicates that Lawlis was traveling north on the 400 block of North Ceaser Chavez Drive when a car driven by Eric Escobar, 28, was traveling east on Erskine Street.

LPD reported that it appears Lawlis did not yield the right of way while making a right turn, causing the crash between the bicycle and the car.

No arrests have been made, and the investigation is ongoing.
