One Killed, Three Injured in Shallowater Crash

 

SHALLOWATER, TX  A two-vehicle crash on Monday afternoon left one person dead and three others injured, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.

The crash occurred at approximately 1:40 p.m. at the intersection of U.S. Highway 84 and Farm-to-Market Road 1294, northwest of Shallowater.

A 2021 Dodge Challenger, driven by Raymond Gonzales, 20, of Lubbock, was traveling westbound on FM 1294 when it approached the intersection with a stop sign. According to DPS, Gonzales failed to yield the right-of-way and pulled into the path of a 2024 Chevrolet Silverado traveling southeast on U.S. 84.

The Silverado hit the passenger side of the Dodge Challenger. Andrew Perez, 21, of Lubbock, was riding in the passenger seat of the Challenger and was not wearing a seatbelt. He was pronounced dead at the scene due to injuries from the crash.

Gonzales, who was also not wearing a seatbelt, was transported to University Medical Center in Lubbock with critical injuries.

The driver of the Silverado, identified as Antonia Gallegos, 31, of Clute, was wearing a seatbelt and sustained minor injuries. 

Her passenger, Marissa Zirges, 30, also of Clute, was wearing a seatbelt and suffered minor injuries. Both were transported to UMC for treatment.

The investigation into the crash is ongoing.
