SNYDER, TX — A Snyder firefighter was killed Sunday night in a single-vehicle crash on U.S. Highway 180, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.
Roy Edward Bolen Jr., a 9-year veteran of the Snyder Fire Department, was traveling westbound in an off-duty vehicle when he lost control on the wet roadway.
A release from DPS stated that the crash occurred at around 7:50 p.m. on May 25, about 0.4 miles west of milepost 350. Investigators believe Bolen's vehicle was traveling at an unsafe speed for the road conditions, causing it to veer into the south ditch and overturn.
Bolen, who was wearing a seatbelt at the time, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Snyder Fire Department Fire Chief Nathan Hines confirmed Bolen’s passing in a statement on Monday.
