LUBBOCK, TX — A 21-year-old was arrested with a DWI early Wednesday morning after a rollover crash in northeast Lubbock County led deputies to the scene through an automatic emergency alert from a cell phone.
According to a press release from the Lubbock County Sheriff’s Office, the accident occurred around 2:06 a.m. on May 28 in the 5300 block of North County Road 3000. The call was triggered by a mobile phone’s crash detection feature, which automatically alerted 911 when it sensed a possible crash.
Dispatchers could not reach anyone by phone, and deputies quickly responded to the location.
When deputies arrived, they found a 2016 Ford Fusion that had rolled over and landed in a bar ditch. The driver, later identified as True Bruington, 21, was the only person inside the vehicle.
Emergency crews from the Roosevelt and Idalou Fire Departments responded to assist with safely removing the driver from the vehicle.
The driver sustained minor injuries and was treated at the scene. After conducting an initial investigation, deputies arrested Bruington for Driving While Intoxicated and Unlawful Carrying of a Weapon.
Bruington was transported to the Lubbock County Detention Center with an unspecified total bond.
The investigation is ongoing.
