Woman Killed in Third Fatal Abilene Train Incident in Weeks

ABILENE, TX  A woman was hit and killed by a train Tuesday morning in Abilene, making it the third fatal train-related incident in the city in just over a month.

According to a press release, Abilene Police officers were called to the 3300 block of North First Street around 10:30 a.m. on April 29 after reports that a train had struck a pedestrian.

Investigators say the woman had gotten out of her vehicle and walked toward the tracks when she was hit by an oncoming train. She died at the scene.

The victim has been identified as 39-year-old Nicole Moncrief of Abilene. Her next of kin has been notified, and police are still looking into what led up to the incident.

This is the third death involving a train in Abilene since late March. On March 25, a man was found dead near the tracks, and on April 15, another man was hit and killed while walking along the railroad with headphones on.

First responders remind the public to be extra cautious around train tracks and to stay alert near all crossings.
