LUBBOCK, TX — A multi-agency law enforcement operation led by the Texas Attorney General’s Office arrested 44 fugitives in the Lubbock and Abilene areas.
According to a press release from the Office of the Texas Attorney General, the weeklong sweep targeted people with violent felony convictions, gang ties, and parole violations.
One of those arrested was wanted for a sex offense, while 12 others were reported to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement due to immigration-related issues, says the release.
“Getting these dangerous criminals off our streets will help make our state safer,” said Attorney General Ken Paxton. “I’m proud of the dedicated law enforcement officers in our Fugitive Unit as well as the professionalism and bravery of every law enforcement agency that contributed to the success of this operation.”
The operation involved agencies including the Abilene Police Department’s Street Crimes Unit, the Texas Department of Criminal Justice, and the Department of Homeland Security.
The Fugitive Apprehension Unit is made up of investigators, analysts, and support staff. The unit also focuses on arresting sex offenders who violate registration laws and helps locate missing or runaway children reported to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children.
Officials have not released details about those arrested but say the operation was to track down fugitives across the state.
