ALBUQUERQUE, NM — Excitement is building for one of the biggest events in the southwest region: the International Balloon Fiesta in Albuquerque. From October 5 to 13, this annual extravaganza will see over 600 hot air balloons fill the sky with colors and designs.
The festival kicks off on Saturday, October 5, with balloon launches scheduled twice daily, weather permitting. Each morning at 7 a.m., the hot-air balloons will take to the skies, with a special opening ceremony on the first day.
In addition, the beloved Special Shape Rodeo, a tradition since 1989, where uniquely shaped balloons—ranging from cows to cacti to aliens—will take flight on October 10 at 7 a.m. The International Balloon Fiesta also hosts a nighttime experience. The Glowdeo will light up the sky at 6:30 p.m. on the same day.
Families can enjoy Kids’ Day on October 11, featuring more whimsical balloons up in the air at both 7 a.m. and 6:30 p.m.
The festival also offers more than just ballooning. Visitors can check out a chainsaw carving exhibition, enjoy drone light shows, or watch the Fiesta de Los Globitos, a remote-controlled balloon display.
A complete schedule of events can be found on the festival’s website, along with the Balloon Fiesta Map, which shows where concessions, restrooms, and exits are located.
