LUBBOCK, TX — A trending TikTok star stopped by the Hub City earlier this year to give a fun yet unorthodox tour of the Jones AT&T Stadium and other sports facilities at Texas Tech University.
Over the past year, TikTok creator GFed has been dedicated to his "Walk On Challenge," where he tries to step foot on the field of every Division I football school in the country—without jumping any fences or picking any locks. In addition to football, GFed has a passion for college basketball and tries to walk onto a court any open door will allow. He also does a “How Long Can I Stay” challenge at many professional sporting events and amusement parks.
During a business trip from Cheyenne, Wyoming, to Steamboat Springs, Colorado, GFed unknowingly took on a life-changing experience. While passing the University of Wyoming campus in Laramie, he decided to check out the athletic facilities and recorded his adventure for TikTok, a routine he often followed. He filmed himself stepping onto the football field but couldn't gain access to the basketball arena, wrapping up his recording without much thought. Little did he know, this would be the start of his viral "Walk On Challenge."
In a recent video, GFed makes his round to West Texas to "tour" Texas Tech's Jones AT&T Stadium, the United Supermarkets Arena, and the livestock arena.
As GFed steps through an unlocked door at the Jones, he likens the west entrance to a "million-dollar Texas mansion" while going up to the top-floor suites. From there, he heads to the south end zone, which was still under construction during his recording. A quick detour leads him to the field, where he discovers an open gate that grants him access to the turf.
When he reaches the south endzone suites, he finds the "best spot he's been to all day," where replicas of the Lombardi trophy are under Patrick Mahomes and Danny Amendola's accolades. A trail of neon lights put GFed in the middle of the Texas Tech new gameday locker room.
After the quick and unoccupied tour, GFed walks across campus to the United Supermarkets Arena. A series of locked doors led to an unlocked entrance at the end of a dimly lit hallway. Once inside, he quickly spots the basketball court and steps onto the glossy hardwood floor.
Across the street, GFed decides to explore the Livestock Arena at Texas Tech. Intrigued by a sign leading to the arena, he mentions, "It's nothing I've seen before at any college." After finding another unlocked entrance, he discovers a display of accolades and trophies celebrating the Texas Tech Rodeo's achievements over the years. Walking further, he went into the livestock room, where a few pigs feed, but the space was mostly empty.
GFed wraps up his unbothered tour of Texas Tech's athletic facilities with a stop for lunch at Chimy's. He mentioned Patrick Mahomes was asked where he would go while at Texas Tech, and Mahomes replied with Mesquites. However, since that bar was closed, GFed opted to head next door to complete his visit to Lubbock.
GFed always acknowledges that if asked to leave any facility, he will respect their wishes and happily comply. Until then, he plans to keep taking his chances.
