Mega Millions Jackpot Hits $944 Million in Time for Christmas

LUBBOCK, TX — Christmas is around the corner, and the Mega Millions jackpot has reached $944 million, with a cash option of about $429.4 million, after another drawing without a winner on Friday.

The next drawing, scheduled for 11 p.m. ET on Tuesday, Christmas Eve, could bring a Christmas miracle for someone lucky enough to match all six winning numbers.

If there is a winner, it would be the second time in Mega Millions history that the jackpot was claimed on December 24th. The first was in December 2002, when a $69 million prize was won in New York, but it was not claimed.

This current jackpot has been building since a Texas ticket won $810 million in September. It is now the seventh-largest in Mega Millions history. The largest jackpot to date was a $1.602 billion prize in Florida in August 2023.

Below is a list of the top Mega Millions jackpots:

$1.602 billion – Florida (Aug. 8, 2023)

$1.537 billion – South Carolina (Oct. 23, 2018)

$1.348 billion – Maine (Jan. 13, 2023)

$1.337 billion – Illinois (July 29, 2022)

$1.128 billion – New Jersey (March 26, 2024)

$1.050 billion – Michigan (Jan. 22, 2021)

$944 million – Current jackpot

Tickets are available in 45 states and cost $2 each. In most states, the Megaplier option costs an extra $1.

If no one wins on Christmas Eve, the jackpot will roll over again, and the next drawing will be scheduled for Friday at 10 p.m.
