OREM, UTAH — Conservative activist Charlie Kirk was shot while preparing to speak at an event in Utah on Wednesday.
Kirk appeared to have been shot in the neck while on stage at Utah Valley University, a video on X showed.
The extent of his injuries is currently unknown.
Law enforcement has the shooter in custody.
Kirk is a prominent activist for conservative values and a well-known supporter of President Donald Trump. He has spoken at numerous college campuses over the years, having debates with students about their liberal beliefs.
He co-founded Turning Point USA, an organization that advocates for conservative politics on high school and college campuses.
President Trump issued a public statement afterward, urging Americans to pray for Kirk and his family. He described Kirk as"a great guy from top to bottom" Trump wrote, "GOD BLESS HIM!"
