Safety 1st Recalls Nearly 180,000 Car Seats Over Choking Hazard

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Nearly 180,000 Safety 1st child car seats are recalled due to a potential choking hazard.

According to a recall release from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the recall affects specific Safety 1st Grow & Go Sprint car seats, where the headrest foam pad may not be securely attached.

NHTSA says children may pick off pieces of foam from the car seat, put them in their mouths, and create a choking hazard.

The recalled models include:

  • CC321GYU

  • CC321GYUD

  • CC321GYY

  • CC321GYYD

  • CC321HAO

  • CC321HAR

While there have been more than a dozen reports of children placing the foam in their mouths, no injuries or medical treatments have been reported.

These car seats are typically sold in Walmart and on Amazon.

The manufacturer, Dorel Juvenile Group, will send replacement headrest pad kits to affected consumers free of charge.
