LUBBOCK, TX—Lubbock offers fishing opportunities for people of all ages this weekend. The 15th Annual “Vamos a Pescar, Let’s Go Fishing” Event will be held on Saturday, August 3, from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Buddy Holly Lake, located at N. University and Cesar Chavez Drive.
This is a free event put on by Los Hermanos Familia, a local nonprofit that uses fishing as a hook to bring families together. Buddy Holly Lake was recently stocked with catfish, and anyone can participate; no fishing license is required.
Adults must have a child present to fish at this event, and vice versa.

According to their website, the event began as a last request of the late Gonzalo Garcia Sr., who wanted to go fishing with his entire family one final time. The request was made the day before his death.
While he was a loving and dedicated father,” his son Frank, who ultimately fulfilled the request, said on the website, “the demands as a farmer would prevent his dad from being a part of family outings and activities.”
This event is all about family and is always free, lunch included. Los Hermanos Familia wants to ensure that money is never an issue and wants entire families to attend.
Come out and enjoy some fishing this Saturday, and be sure to bring family and friends to celebrate a fun day in the sun. Families are encouraged to prepare for hot weather, so bring water, shade, sunscreen, etc.
