LUBBOCK, TX — Cooler temperatures are here to stay in the South Plains throughout the beginning of the week, with partly cloudy skies and light winds expected on Monday. Highs will stay in the 40s and slowly warm up to the low 50s by Tuesday and the 60s by Friday, then drop back down to the low 40s into the weekend.
According to the National Weather Service, the forecast in the South Plains expects mostly sunny skies with a high near 45°F today. Winds will be light, coming from the south at 5 to 10 mph. Tonight, conditions will turn partly cloudy, with temperatures dipping to around 24°F. After midnight, winds will shift from the south-southeast to the west-southwest at about 5 mph.
On Tuesday, sunny skies will return, with a high near 51°F. Light winds will start from the west at 5 mph and shift to the southeast in the afternoon. Tuesday night will see mostly clear conditions, with temperatures dropping to around 26°F.
Wednesday will be slightly sunnier, with a high near 52°F. Winds will start from the north-northwest at 5 mph and turn to the south later in the day. Wednesday night will be partly cloudy, with a low of around 28°F.
Looking ahead to the weekend, the weather will start warm but cool down significantly, with temperatures dropping lower than last weekend.
On Friday, the South Plains can expect sunny skies and a high of 65°F, paired with gusty west-southwest winds up to 30 mph. Friday night will be clear, with temperatures cooling to around 30°F. Saturday will be mostly sunny, with a high near 45°F, and temperatures will dip to around 18°F overnight. Sunday will stay mostly sunny but much colder, with highs reaching only 36°F.
