LUBBOCK, TX — Fog and drizzle will blanket the South Plains this morning. In areas with temperatures around or below freezing, freezing fog and drizzle will impact parts of the southwest Texas Panhandle and northern South Plains.
According to the National Weather Service, conditions are expected to improve later this afternoon, but temperatures will stay cool, reaching only the upper 30s to mid-40s.
Rain and freezing rain will continue into late tonight and through Wednesday morning. The southern Texas Panhandle and parts of the northern and central South Plains have the highest chance for freezing drizzle and light freezing rain. Elsewhere, expect cold rain or drizzle. Fog and freezing fog are also possible, and black ice could form.
Today, expect areas of fog before noon, then mostly cloudy skies with a high around 42. Winds will be from the east-northeast at 10 to 15 mph. Tonight, there's a 50% chance of rain between 9 p.m. and 3 a.m., with fog developing after 9 p.m. The low will be around 32°, with winds shifting to the south-southwest after midnight. Precipitation will likely be less than a tenth of an inch.

Wednesday will bring mostly sunny skies with a high near 58°. Winds will be from the southwest at 10 to 20 mph, turning to the north-northeast in the afternoon. Wednesday night will be mostly cloudy with a low near 17°, and winds will be from the east-northeast at 10 to 15 mph.
Thursday will start mostly cloudy but clear up later, with a high near 43°. In the afternoon, winds will shift from east-northeast to southeast. Thursday night, expect partly cloudy skies and a low of around 25°.
Two cold fronts will move through the area this week, one on Wednesday afternoon and another on Saturday. Ahead of the fronts, temperatures will warm into the 50s and 60s but drop by 10 to 20 degrees behind each one.
Friday will be partly sunny, with a high near 62°, and winds will be from the south at 10 to 20 mph. Friday night will be partly cloudy, with a low of around 40°. Saturday will be sunny, with a high near 61°. Saturday night will be mostly clear, with a low around 23°. Sunday will be sunny, with a high near 52°, and Sunday night will be partly cloudy, with a low around 28°.
