LUBBOCK, TX — A High Wind Warning is in effect for Bailey, Cochran, and Parmer Counties until 7:00 p.m. today, with a Wind Advisory for most of the South Plains.

According to the National Weather Service, winds are expected to reach gusts of 60 mph in the High Wind Warning area and 50-60 mph in the Wind Advisory area. A Red Flag Warning is also in place, as high winds, low humidity, and warm temperatures create critical fire weather conditions.

Blowing dust is expected in the area, and thunderstorms may develop tonight with the potential for hail and gusty winds. A High Wind Watch has been issued for Tuesday, with winds expected to gust up to 60 mph, along with blowing dust and fire weather concerns. The winds will ease by Thursday, with the next chance of rain expected on Saturday.
For today, expect patchy blowing dust after noon and increasing clouds with a high near 79°. Winds will be from the southwest at 15 to 20 mph, increasing to 25 to 30 mph in the afternoon, with gusts as high as 40 mph. Patchy blowing dust will persist tonight before 8:00 p.m., then again after 3:00 a.m.. Temperatures will drop to around 42°, with a west wind of 15 to 25 mph, gusting as high as 35 mph.

On Tuesday, patchy blowing dust will continue with a high near 64°. Winds will increase from 25 to 30 mph in the morning, reaching 35 to 40 mph by afternoon, with gusts up to 55 mph. Tuesday night, patchy blowing dust will continue before 9:00 p.m., with temperatures falling to around 33°. Winds will die down overnight, with gusts as high as 35 mph.
Wednesday will be sunny, with a high near 61° and lighter winds from the southeast. Wednesday night's temperatures will drop to around 40°.
Thursday will be mostly cloudy, with a high near 72°. Breezy conditions will continue, with winds reaching 20 to 25 mph in the afternoon. Thursday night will see a low of around 45°.
Friday will be sunny with a high near 68°, and breezy conditions will persist in the afternoon. Friday night will be partly cloudy, with a low around 33°. Saturday brings a 20% chance of showers, with a high near 53°. Mostly clear skies are expected Saturday night, with a low around 32°. Sunday will be sunny, with a high near 68°.
