LUBBOCK, TX — According to the National Weather Service, a Red Flag Warning is in effect for the southern Texas Panhandle, South Plains, and Rolling Plains on Tuesday due to dry, windy conditions, with fire risks at critical levels. The weather will cool down later this week, with rain chances starting Friday and lasting into the weekend.

Red Flag Warning This Week on April 1-2
The weather will be pleasant today, with mostly light southeast winds and highs in the lower 70s. Tonight, southerly winds will keep temperatures in the 40s to near 50°F, and skies will remain mostly clear.

Weather Today and Tonight March 31
Tuesday will be hot and windy, with mostly sunny skies and a high near 88°F. Winds will pick up to 25 to 35 mph in the afternoon, possibly gusting as high as 45 mph, and blowing dust will develop after 1 p.m. Winds will remain strong overnight, with gusts up to 40 mph and a low around 48°F.
Wednesday is expected to be mostly sunny with a high near 74°F. Winds will be from the west at 10 to 20 mph, and there’s a 20% chance of showers before 1 a.m. Overnight lows will be around 49°F, with southwest winds calming after midnight.
Thursday will bring partly sunny skies and a high near 71°F. A 50% chance of rain is expected overnight, with temperatures dropping to around 46°F and winds shifting to the north-northwest after midnight.
Friday will be cooler with a 70% chance of showers and thunderstorms, especially at night. The high will be near 62°F, and temperatures will drop to around 42°F at night.
Rain will continue into Saturday, with a 50% chance of showers. There will be mostly cloudy skies and a high near 55°F. There’s a slight chance of rain on Saturday night, with a low around 34°F. Sunday will have partly sunny skies with a 20% chance of showers. Temperatures will reach a high of 54°F.
