Weekend Rain Chance Follows Warm Week in the South Plains

 

LUBBOCK, TX — The South Plains is in for a warm and breezy week, with highs climbing into the 90s by Thursday before cooling down slightly over the weekend.

While most of the week will stay dry and sunny, the chance for showers and thunderstorms increases by Friday night and continues into the weekend, according to the National Weather Service.

Today kicks off the week with mild and pleasant weather. Skies will stay sunny throughout the day, and the high will be near 71°. Winds from the southeast will blow around 15 mph, keeping things breezy. Tonight will be mostly clear, with a low around 51°.

Wednesday brings a significant warm-up, with sunny skies and highs nearing 88°. Winds will shift to the south at 10 to 15 mph, with gusts as high as 25 mph. Overnight lows will be around 60° under mostly clear skies.

Thursday is expected to be the hottest day of the week. Temperatures will soar to around 92° with strong southwest winds between 15 to 20 mph and gusts up to 30 mph. Skies remain sunny during the day, while Thursday night will be partly cloudy with a low near 63°.

Friday will see slightly cooler temperatures with a high near 85° and partly sunny skies. Winds stay out of the southwest at 10 to 20 mph. A slight shift in weather arrives Friday night, with a 30% chance of showers and thunderstorms before 1 a.m. Skies will be mostly cloudy overnight, with a low around 55°.

Saturday continues the trend of unsettled weather, with a 30% chance of afternoon showers and storms. Much of the day will be mostly sunny, with a high near 79°. Storm chances increase to 50% on Saturday night, with partly cloudy skies and a low around 47°.

Sunday wraps up the week with mostly sunny conditions and a slight 20% chance of lingering showers or thunderstorms. The high will be near 75°, and skies will clear into the evening with an overnight low around 48°.
