Tornado Watch Issued for the South Plains Until 11 PM

 

LUBBOCK, TX — A tornado watch is in effect for Lubbock and several surrounding counties through 11 p.m. Thursday, according to the National Weather Service.

There are 16 counties under the tornado watch, including Cottle, Crosby, Dickens, Floyd, Garza, Hale, Kent, King, Lubbock, Lynn, Motley, Stonewall, Briscoe, Childress, Hall, and Swisher.

The weather is expected to turn stormy late this afternoon and into the evening. There is a 50% chance of thunderstorms developing after 4 p.m., with some storms potentially becoming severe. Temperatures are forecast to reach a high near 83° with south winds around 15 miles per hour.

Rain chances decrease slightly tonight, with a 30% chance of storms before 7 p.m. Skies will become partly cloudy, and the low is expected to be around 60°.

Storms return Friday afternoon with a 40% chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly after 4 p.m. The high will be near 82° with continued south winds around 10 miles per hour.

The chance of storms increases to 80% on Friday night, and these storms may produce heavy rainfall. The low will be near 58 degrees with east winds between 10 and 15 miles per hour.
