LUBBOCK, TX — A brief round of thunderstorms is expected Thursday evening as storms develop over eastern New Mexico and move southeast across the Caprock. While the severe weather threat is low, some storms could produce wind gusts up to 40 mph and small hail, according to the National Weather Service.
After the storms move out, quiet and mild weather is forecast through the weekend.

Thunderstorm Chances This Evening May 8
Thursday afternoon brings a 20% chance of showers and thunderstorms after 4 p.m., with mostly sunny skies and a high near 74°F. Winds will come from the north at around 10 mph. Storm chances taper off before 10 p.m., with partly cloudy skies and lows around 51°F.

Weather Tonight and Tomorrow May 8 & 9
Friday will be mostly sunny, with a high near 73°F and north-northeast winds between 5 and 15 mph. Friday night will be mostly clear, with a low around 49°F.
Saturday continues the sunny trend, with highs near 76°F and light northeast winds. Saturday night will be mostly clear with temperatures dropping to around 47°F and winds shifting southeast after midnight.
Sunday will be sunny and warmer, with a high near 79°F and light winds from the south-southeast in the afternoon. Sunday night remains mostly clear with lows around 51°F. Dry and pleasant weather is expected to continue into the start of next week.
