LUBBOCK, TX — A slight risk of severe weather remains in effect for parts of the southern Rolling Plains today, with cooler temperatures expected through Friday and a gradual warm-up heading into the weekend, according to the National Weather Service.
Today, there is a 20% chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly in the afternoon. Skies will be mostly cloudy in the morning, becoming gradually sunny later in the day with a high near 84°F. South winds around 10 mph will accompany the possibility of strong storms capable of producing golf ball-sized hail and wind gusts up to 60 mph.
Tonight, skies will be partly cloudy with a low of around 59°F. Winds will shift from the south-southeast to the north after midnight at speeds between 5 and 15 mph.

Severe Weather Outlook May 28
Thursday brings another slight chance of showers and thunderstorms after 1 p.m., with partly sunny skies and a high near 75°F. Winds will come from the northeast at 5 to 10 mph. Thursday night, the chance of rain increases to 30% before 1 a.m. under mostly cloudy skies. The low will be around 58°F with east-northeast winds between 10 and 15 mph.
Friday will be mostly cloudy with a high near 79°F. Winds will be light, shifting from the east-northeast to the south-southeast later in the day. Friday night will be partly cloudy with a low near 61°F and south-southeast winds at 5 to 10 mph.
By Saturday, the warming trend begins. There’s a 20% chance of afternoon thunderstorms under mostly sunny skies, with highs reaching near 88°F. Saturday night will be partly cloudy with a low around 63°F and light winds from the south.
Sunday is expected to be the warmest day of the week, with sunny skies and a high near 92°F. A 20% chance of showers and thunderstorms will return before 1 a.m. Sunday night, followed by partly cloudy skies and a low around 66°F.
