Super Bowl Matchup Set: Chiefs vs. Eagles Round II

LUBBOCK, TX — It almost feels inevitable at this point. The Kansas City Chiefs are headed back to the Super Bowl after the Chiefs defeated the Bills on Sunday 32-29. Another AFC Championship has Patrick Mahomes in the driver's seat to claim the NFL's first-ever three-peat Super Bowl Champions.

In the early game, Saquon Barkley and the Philadelphia Eagles mauled the Washington Commanders 55-23 to punch the Eagles' ticket in what will be a rematch of the Super Bowl LVII, where the Chiefs beat the Eagles 38-35.

Outside of either the fanbase's city or, in Pat Mahomes's case, Lubbock, fans around the NFL see this as the least favorable outcome for a fun Super Bowl to watch. The Kansas City Chiefs are officially the league's new New England Patriots, as making it to this Super Bowl all but confirms the Chiefs' run as a dynasty. When the Chiefs win in two weeks, they might solidify themselves as one of the best teams in NFL history.

On the other side of the aisle, we have the Philadelphia Eagles. The Eagles have quite frankly stayed out of the spotlight on their way to their second Super Bowl appearance in the last three years. The biggest difference between this Eagles team and the team HC Nick Serriani brought last time around is the weapons.

The last time the Eagles and Chiefs met in the Super Bowl, Jalen Hurts was a rookie quarterback. The Eagles didn't have the greatest running back in the league, Saquon Barkley, nor one of the best wide receivers this season in AJ Brown. Adding former Heisman trophy winner Devonta Smith to the mix will elevate the Eagles' odds of success moving forward.

However, at the end of the day, the Chiefs are still the Chiefs. Head Coach Andy Reid, Patrick Mahomes, Travis Kelce, and Chris Jones on defense will always give Kansas City a shot to win.

Super Bowl LIX is set to kickoff on Sunday, February 9, at the Caesars Superdome in New Orleans. Kickoff is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
