LUBBOCK, TX — A 39-year-old is charged with Aggravated Assault against a Public Servant following an officer-involved shooting in East Lubbock Sunday morning.
The Lubbock Police Department posted the details of the incident on their Facebook page on Monday morning, August 12.
Lubbock Police responded to a domestic disturbance call around 9 a.m. in the 300 block of East 37th Street. According to authorities, Eliseo Padilla III was reported to be armed and had caused property damage at the residence.
The first officer on the scene arrived around 9 a.m. and encountered Padilla outside the home. Despite multiple commands to place his hands on a vehicle for a pat-down, Padilla remained combative, police said. The officer, aware that Padilla was armed, deployed a taser in an attempt to subdue him.
However, Padilla produced a firearm and opened fire on the officer.
The officer returned fire at approximately 9:09 a.m., police said. The officer was not injured in the exchange.
After the shooting, the officer immediately notified dispatch, and EMS was requested. Additional officers arrived and administered life-saving measures to Padilla. He was transported to University Medical Center, where he remains in critical condition.

The officer involved, who has been with the Lubbock Police Department since January 2015, has been placed on routine administrative leave, in accordance with department policy. The incident is under investigation by the Lubbock Metropolitan Special Crimes Unit, the department's Office of Professional Standards, and the forensic unit.
A warrant has been issued for Padilla's arrest, and his bond has been set at $300,000.
