Legendary Jackson 5 Star Dies at 70

NEW MEXICO, U.S. — Tito Jackson, renowned for his role in the legendary Jackson 5 and as the brother of the King of Pop, Michael Jackson, has passed away at 70.

According to former Jackson family manager Steve Manning, Tito suffered an apparent heart attack while driving from New Mexico to Oklahoma on Sunday.

The official cause of death has not yet been confirmed.

Tito Jackson was not only a pivotal member of the Jackson 5 but also a talented singer and guitarist.

His sons, Taj, Taryll, and TJ, shared the heartbreaking news of their father’s death through an Instagram post on Sunday, expressing their profound shock, sadness, and heartbreak over the sudden loss.

“It’s with heavy hearts that we announce that our beloved father, Rock & Roll Hall of Famer Tito Jackson is no longer with us. We are shocked, saddened, and heartbroken,” his sons wrote on the official page of their R&B group 3T.

“Our father was an incredible man who cared about everyone and their well-being. Some of you may know him as Tito Jackson from the legendary Jackson 5, some may know him as ‘Coach Tito’ or some know him as ‘Poppa T.’”

Born Toriano Adaryll Jackson on October 15, 1953, in Gary, Indiana, Tito Jackson was the third of ten children in the Jackson family, including global stars Michael and Janet Jackson. Recognizing Tito's talent as a singer and guitarist, his father Joe Jackson formed the Jackson Brothers in 1964, which eventually evolved into the Jackson 5. The family’s rising music career led them to relocate to California.

Over the summer of 2024, Tito performed with his brothers Jackie and Marlon as part of The Jacksons, with shows in Scotland, California, and England.

The brothers were set to perform in Atlantic City, New Jersey, on October 25 and in Cincinnati, Ohio, on November 1.
