Students Involved in Fatal Crash in Martin County

LUBBOCK, TX — The Texas Department of Public Safety reported on Friday that Shelby Carroll, 19, from Huffman, and Jack (Lorin) Parks, 22, from Paducah, lost their lives in a crash in Martin County on Thursday afternoon.

Parks was recognized as a firefighter in Paducah, and the department made a social media post on Facebook requesting prayers for his family and the department during this difficult time. Both Parks and Carroll were students at Texas Tech University.

The fatal crash occurred on State Highway 349 near mile marker 300 at approximately 1:45 p.m.

According to the DPS crash report, a Freightliner truck, driven by 31-year-old Amador Reyes Terrazas of Odessa, was stopped in the northbound lane of the highway. Carroll, who was driving a Jeep Wrangler, was also traveling northbound in the inside lane when she collided with the rear of the trailer.

Both Carroll and Parks were pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the truck was reported to be uninjured, and all occupants were using seatbelts at the time of the incident.

“This crash remains under investigation, and no further information is available at this time,” stated the DPS.
