Are Robots Starting to Take Over?

Musk introduced the Optimus robots, stating that they are not available for purchase yet but will be soon. The Tesla CEO claimed that the Optimus could be “the biggest product ever of any kind,” showing its ability to perform everyday tasks like walking dogs, babysitting children, mowing lawns, and serving drinks. This isn't purely AI since a human is providing remote help, but next year's AI Day will show how fast Optimus is picking things up.

The estimated price for each robot would range from $20,000 to $30,000.

“The Optimus will walk amongst you,” Musk said to attendees interacting with the robots during the presentation. Although the robots demonstrated limited actions like holding drinks and playing games, a question was raised: Will robots become part of our daily lives in the distant future?

The next-generation Optimus robot features 22 degrees of freedom, allowing for realistic movements. Musk emphasized its potential to transform daily life, stating, “Whatever you can think of, it will do.” Along with its range of movements, the robot can even talk. In a recent demonstration, Grammy-winning rapper 2 Chainz was seen talking with Tesla's newest robot.

On Tesla's website, the company outlines its goal of creating a sustainable future through automation, making transportation more efficient and safe.

In addition to the Optimus robot, the Tesla Robovan was also announced and is designed to transport more people than a standard car. However, details about the vehicle are still limited. Early glimpses reveal a comfortable interior with seats arranged similarly to those in minibusses. 

The Robovan can carry up to 20 people, and a cargo version may also be available. The estimated cost for a trip on the Robovan is approximately 51 cents per mile.

Musk also introduced the RoboTaxi, designed as a robotic cab. At a reasonable price of $30,000, it allows owners to manage a fleet and earn income without driving.

Musk noted that he hopes the RoboTaxi could enter production by 2026.
