Microsoft Outlook, Teams Face Nationwide Outage

LUBBOCK, TX — Many Microsoft Outlook and Teams users encountered issues as they attempted to start their work week. Reports from users on Downdetector showed widespread issues with Microsoft 365, Teams, Outlook, and the Microsoft Store beginning around 5:00 a.m. ET.

According to a series of posts on X from Microsoft 365 Status, at around 2 a.m. ET, the company acknowledged an issue affecting users trying to access Exchange Online and Microsoft Teams calendar functionality. A "recent change" was later revealed as the likely cause of the interruptions.

By 9:00 a.m. ET, Microsoft confirmed that a fix had been deployed and was being applied to the affected systems. At 11:00 a.m. ET, the company reported that the fix had been implemented in about 90% of the impacted environments. Less than an hour later, Microsoft said the fix had reached 98% of those areas, with targeted restarts still in progress.

For users who had trouble accessing Outlook, Teams, or other Microsoft 365 services, Microsoft assured that services should return to normal soon.

It appears that Microsoft is making progress in restoring affected services, and users should expect functionality to fully return soon.
