Longtime 'General Hospital' Star Dies at 79

LOS ANGELES, CA  Leslie Charleson, best known for portraying Monica Quartermaine on the long-running soap opera General Hospital, passed away at the age of 79.

She died on Sunday at a hospital in Los Angeles after an unspecified prolonged illness.

General Hospital's executive producer, Frank Valentini, posted the news on X, writing, "It is with a heavy heart that I announce the passing of our dear friend and colleague Leslie Charleson.”

"Her enduring legacy has spanned nearly 50 years on General Hospital alone, and just as Monica was the heart of the Quartermaines, Leslie was a beloved matriarch of the entire cast and crew."

A Kansas City native, Charleson's career spanned decades. Before her role on General Hospital, she appeared in several popular TV series, including A Flame in the Wind, Love is a Many-Splendored Thing, The Rockford Files, The Wild West, The Streets of San Francisco, Ironside, Happy Days, and The Day of the Dolphin.
