LUBBOCK, TX — Lubbock and the South Plains area are expected to experience record-breaking heat today, with temperatures reaching the 80s. This could set new records in the Hub City and the surrounding area.
According to the National Weather Service, today will be sunny, with light west winds at 5 to 15 mph this morning, shifting to light and variable winds later in the day. The temperatures will cool off tonight to around 46°F, with partly cloudy skies and light winds coming from the west at about 5 mph. A cold front is moving in on Tuesday, bringing cooler temperatures and keeping highs in the 70s, especially in Childress.
The forecast for Tuesday is mostly sunny, with a high near 78°F and winds from the south at 5 to 15 mph. Tuesday night will be partly cloudy with lows around 52°F.
Wednesday will warm up a little, with highs near 83°F and mostly sunny skies. Wednesday night will bring clear skies and cooler temperatures, with lows around 46°F.
Looking ahead to the weekend, the weather is expected to be much cooler. Friday will be sunny with a high near 77°F. Friday night will be mostly clear with a low of around 47°F. Saturday will be another sunny day, with a high near 81°F. Saturday night will be chilly, with a low of around 34°F. Sunday will be much cooler, with sunny skies and a high near 59°F.
