Fatal Crash Near Olton Leaves Man Dead, Teen Injured

 

LAMB COUNTY, TX — A crash on US 70 near CR 291 in Lamb County near Olton early Saturday morning left one person dead and another injured.

According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, the crash occured around 4:48 a.m. on February 15. A 2002 Ford Ranger, driven by David Diaz Jimenez, 67, from Hart, Texas, was traveling west on US 70 when it crossed into the eastbound lane. 

The Ford Ranger collided with a 2006 Toyota Sienna, driven by a 15-year-old male from Earth, Texas, in a head-on front-left to front-left crash.

Jimenez was taken to University Medical Center in Lubbock, where he was later pronounced dead from his injuries. The 15-year-old driver of the Toyota Sienna was also transported to the hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening. A 20-year-old passenger in the Sienna, Alejandro Cacao, was unharmed.

The weather was clear, and the road was dry. The posted speed limit on US 70 is 65 mph.

The Texas DPS is continuing to investigate the crash.
