LUBBOCK, TX — Weather in the South Plains will bring a mix of spring sunshine and chances for rain and thunderstorms this week.
According to the National Weather Service, temperatures will stay mild throughout the week, with a gradual cool-down heading into the weekend. While the start of the week looks pleasant, storm chances increase by Tuesday and continue through Saturday.
Today will be mostly sunny with a high near 82°. Winds will come from the south at 10 to 15 miles per hour, keeping conditions warm and breezy. Monday night will be mostly clear, with a low around 52°.

Dry and Mild Today April 21
On Tuesday, the weather pattern becomes more active. Showers and thunderstorms are likely in the afternoon, especially after 1 p.m. The high will remain around 82°, and the chance of precipitation is 60%. Some thunderstorms may be strong and will likely continue into the evening and overnight hours, mainly before 1 a.m. The low will be near 56°.
Wednesday’s forecast includes a 40% chance of showers and thunderstorms. Skies will be partly sunny with a high near 79°. South winds will continue at 10 to 15 miles per hour. Wednesday night will be mostly cloudy, and the chance for storms remains at 40%. The low will be around 59°.
Thursday will bring another round of showers and thunderstorms, mainly in the afternoon. Skies will be mostly cloudy early in the day but will gradually clear later on. The high will reach 83°, with continued south winds. Thursday night has a 30% chance of storms before 1 a.m., and the low will be near 55°.
Friday’s weather will be slightly calmer, but a 30% chance of showers and thunderstorms remains in the forecast for the afternoon. It will be mostly sunny with a high near 75°. Rain chances increase Friday night to 50% under mostly cloudy skies. The overnight low will be around 54°.
Saturday is expected to be the wettest day of the week, with a 70% chance of showers and thunderstorms during the day and night. Skies will remain mostly cloudy, and the high will be near 70°, with lows around 57°.
By Sunday, conditions start to improve. There is still a 40% chance of showers and thunderstorms, but skies will become mostly sunny later in the day. The high is expected to reach 82°.
