LUBBOCK, TX — A tornado watch and a flood watch is in effect for Lubbock and several surrounding counties through 10 p.m. Friday, according to the National Weather Service.
There are 21 counties under the tornado watch, including Bailey, Briscoe, Castro, Cochran, Cottle, Crosby, Dickens, Floyd, Garza, Hale, Hall, Hockley, King, Lamb, Lubbock, Lynn, Motley, Parmer, Swisher, Terry, and Yoakum.

This afternoon, there is a 40% chance of showers and thunderstorms developing after 4 p.m., with some storms possibly turning severe. Temperatures are expected to reach a high near 85°F with southeast winds around 15 mph.
Tonight, the likelihood of storms increases significantly, with an 80% chance of showers and thunderstorms after 7 p.m. Some storms may be severe, producing heavy rainfall between 1 and 2 inches. Lows will dip to around 59°F with winds from the east-southeast at 10 to 15 mph.
The stormy pattern continues into Saturday, with another 80% chance of rain and thunderstorms throughout the day. Highs will be near 72°F, and additional rainfall totals of up to three-quarters of an inch are possible. East winds will persist at 10 to 15 mph.
By Saturday night, chances of rain will decrease to 30% before 1 a.m., giving way to partly cloudy skies. Overnight lows will hover around 60°F with southeast winds continuing at 10 to 15 mph.
