    LUBBOCK, TX — Until its closure in 1996, Reese Air Force Base was home to the training of T-38 "Talon" and T-37 "Tweet" pilots, who honed their emergency procedures and instrument approaches in the simulator building. This stoutly-built structure also served as the headquarters for the Operations Group Commander, a bird colonel, who oversaw all flying operations at Reese's three runways.

John Kelly (ret.), Director of the Texas State Veterans Cemeteries at the Texas General Land Office, inspected the construction progress at the new West Texas State Veterans Cemetery on Tuesday, July 9. The cemetery, located at 4614 E. 50th St. on the east side of Lubbock, is on schedule and on budget, Kelly reported to the Lubbock City Council.
