LUBBOCK, TX — A man who allegedly assaulted and attempted to strangle his girlfriend was arrested after returning to the scene of the crime, according to police.
Kavaughn Jackson, 30, of Lubbock, was booked into the Lubbock County Detention Center on Sept. 14 and remains jailed on $400,000 bond — $200,000 for each charge: assault with a deadly weapon (a kitchen knife) and impeding breath or circulation during an assault on a family member. He was also charged with having no driver's license, according to jail records.
Police were called to a residence in the 1100 block of 86th Street for a domestic disturbance. Officers arrived to find a woman who identified herself as Jackson's girlfriend.
She told police that Jackson had punched her in the face with a closed fist before running to the kitchen to grab a knife. A chase ensued throughout the residence, during which Jackson lunged at her several times, causing her to fear for her life, she said.
According to court documents, Jackson eventually dropped the knife but then struck his girlfriend in the face multiple times and put his hands around her neck in an attempt to strangle her, according to police. The girlfriend had visible injuries, including marks on her neck, a bloody nose, and a busted lip. Officers reported finding a large amount of blood on the floor, which the girlfriend said was hers.
After the assault, Jackson fled the scene in a silver passenger car with his cousin. While officers initially left the residence, one investigator remained nearby to monitor the area.
A short time later, the investigator observed a silver car pulling into the driveway. The girlfriend also saw the vehicle and called 911, confirming that Jackson was back. Jackson and his cousin left the scene again in the sedan, and officers followed.
Police conducted a traffic stop for an expired temporary tag on the silver sedan. Jackson’s cousin was driving, and officers identified Jackson in the vehicle before taking him into custody.
